School Weather Cancellation

September 2009

Cancellation of school in Marshfield is based on existing circumstances (STREET CONDITIONS, UNPLOWED SCHOOL YARDS, BUILDING PROBLEMS), as well as weather forecasts at 5:00 a.m. on the day of cancellation.  Cancellation of school the previous evening is based upon projected conditions for the next day.

Depending on weather and road conditions, the Marshfield Public Schools may exercise the option of a delayed opening.  The delay would be for one or two hours.  Sidewalks may NOT be cleared in the event of a delayed opening.

Morning preschool and kindergarten will be cancelled with both a one or two-hour delayed opening.  Afternoon preschool and kindergarten will attend school with a delayed opening.  Early morning day care, provided by the Old Colony YMCA, will follow Marshfield Public Schools with a one or two-hour delayed opening.

In the event that school is in session but sidewalks are not plowed, additional buses will pick up student walkers who attend the Daniel Webster and Governor Winslow Schools.

Parents are urged to use their discretion in sending their children to school in adverse weather.  Parents should be prepared with contingency plans if their children are dismissed early because of snow, flooding, or other emergencies.  Dismissals are based on changing weather conditions as monitored throughout the day.

This year we will continue to use our ‘Connect Ed’ communication system to notify all parents of school cancellation and/or delayed opening.  However, we will still continue to announce these messages over radio and TV stations.  Radio and TV stations carrying the Marshfield no school or dismissal announcements are:

                                                WATD  95.9                  WBZ     Channel 4

                                                                                    WCVB  Channel 5

                                                                                    WRKO  Channel 7

                                                                                    WFXT   Fox 25

Please do not call the police station, the fire station, the radio stations, or the school offices for no school announcements.  Listen to one of the radio/TV stations listed above for the public closings or delays.

Sincerely,

                 Middleton K. McGoodwin, Ed. D.

Hurricane and Flooding - Brant  Rock

September 2009

 Dear Parent/Guardian:

As we move into the fall and winter seasons, weather factors sometimes play a major role in our daily lives.  In order to insure the maximum safety of all of our students who live in the Brant Rock area when flooding occurs due to hurricanes, northeasters, and even just high seas, the following information is provided to you:

If the Esplanade is flooded denying bus passage, ALL buses operating in that area will enter Dyke Road to Town Pier Road and proceed past Town Pier onto Central Street. The buses will turn left and proceed on Island Street to Bradford Street.  At that point, the buses will reverse this route of travel to exit the area.

It is important that you watch for your child since he/she may be dropped at a location different from the normal daily bus stop.  If you have any concerns about the route the buses will take, call your building principal for the latest update.  Working together, we can insure that all children will be safe as they proceed to and from their assigned school should the weather deteriorate.

Sincerely,

  Middleton K. McGoodwin, Ed. D.

Inclement Weather Bus Stop Changes
November 2009

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The Marshfield Public Schools provides school bus service to all eligible K-12 students throughout the school year. This service, which covers a total of 40 square miles per day, includes certain residential areas that have a history of being hazardous to safe school bus travel at certain times during the winter months.

The Marshfield Police Department and Department of Public Works have assisted the Marshfield Public Schools with identifying these residential areas. As a result, and with the safety of all students our number one priority, the residential areas listed below will be assigned alternate bus stops on the days when road conditions are hazardous to safe school bus travel. Parents/guardians will be notified by the school district’s ConnectEd telephone system when alternate bus stops are to be used.
