Art is a daily part of elementary
school children both in and out of the classroom.
Experiencing art is vital to children as they become more
aware of themselves and their environment. Uniquely, art
offers children the opportunity to express their ideas and
feelings in a developmentally appropriate and individual
way. Art offers and encourages flexibility of thought,
risk-taking, confidence in decision-making, and increases
the ability to organize thoughts and feelings.
At the Eames Way School,
students will be exposed to a broad range of age-appropriate
materials and will develop skills using these materials.
They will develop a knowledge and understanding of the basic
elements and principals of design as they continue to
explore ideas in an atmosphere conducive to artistic
expression.
Literature, poetry, grade
level curriculum and each child’s experiences, both real and
imaginary, will serve as a springboard to thinking and
motivation. Famous artists and their works will be explored
as well as styles and techniques. Students will begin to
form opinions as well as an appreciation and respect for the
creativity of others. Child art is NOT adult art. A child’s
art represents his/her own thinking, emotions and responses
to the environment. Art allows each student an opportunity
to explore and express him or herself freely. It is another
means of communication. Art is a powerful and universal
language.
If you would be interested in
volunteering in the Art Program, please contact me at
school. There are always lots of art pieces to display
throughout the year.
