Academic Decathlon
Rock Roberts
We participate in a national program
that focuses on academic achievement. Every year, United States Academic
Decathlon decides on a theme and curriculum materials are developed. In
November, a regional competition takes place at three different sites
across the state. The top 17 teams qualify for state competition which
takes place in March. The winner of the state competition represents
Massachusetts at the national competition. Students involved in Academic
Decathlon study for and take exams in science, math, language and
literature, social science, economics, art, and music. During the state
and national competitions, students also give a prepared speech, an
impromptu speech, write an essay and participate in an interview. For
more information, one can visit the official website,
http://www.usad.org.
We have official meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but study groups
are also held on Mondays and Wednesdays. All meetings are held in room
152.
