Marshfield  Public  Schools  wishes  to  inform you of the following community events . . .

 

Student Art Showcase Grades K-12 presented by North River Arts Society opening March 14th 2-4 p.m. through March 21 at the G.A.R. Hall, 157 Old Main Street, Marshfield Hills.  Free admittance.

 

Clean Up Marshfield week - April 10 & 11.  Pitch in and help keep Marshfield beautiful.  Come by yourself or with a group - we supply the bags, you supply the time and energy!   Pick up bags April 5 - 9 at Roche Brothers, Shaws, Green Harbor General Store and Success Real Estate; or April 10 at Marshfield Town Hall from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.   Drop off collected bags April 10 or 11 at Furnace Brook Middle School Rear Lot from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.   Sponsored by Marshfield Chamber of Commerce, DPW, and Beach Commission.  For more information: 781-831-3134 or dsullivan@townofmarshfield.org

 

Internet Safety Presentation: Open to parents at the Furnace Brook Middle School on Friday, March 12 at 8:15 a.m.    Plymouth County District Attorney, Karen Stone, will do a presentation on Internet Safety and the legal difficulties that students can encounter when using the internet.  A member of the Massachusetts State Police will do a presentation on internet crime, search and seizure.  The message to students is simple - you are not as safe as you think when you are on the internet.   A second presentation open to parents and members of the Marshfield Community will be on Wednesday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the FBMS Auditorium.

 

Student Art Showcase - An exhibit of artwork created by Marshfield students, Grades PK-12 will be on exhibit March 14-21 at the G.A.R. Hall, 157 Old Main Street, Marshfield Hills in collaboration with The North River Arts Society.   Opening Reception: March 14, 2-4 pm.  Public viewing March 15-19 from 9 am to 12 noon.  March 20 & 21 viewing 12 noon - 3 pm.  The North River Arts Society is a non-profit organization committed to further art education and appreciation in the Marshfield community.

 

Marshfield Parent Advisory Council invites all parents to attend presentation on The MCAS & Students With Disabilities presented by Johanne Pino of MA Advocates for Children -- Thursday, March 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Marshfield Ventress Memorial Library.  Course provides background about MCAS and reviews the rights of students with disabilities to access the general education curriculum.  Review of MCAS accommodations, such as increased breaks, small groups, or a reader.   Sample MCAS questions, reporting requirements, and results for students with disabilities will be included.   Workshop is funded by the Massachusetts Advocates for Children and is free and open to the public.   We ask that you register by contacting Susan Moyse @ 781-837-7689 or susan.moyse@verizon.net

 

Marshfield Historical Commission will present Yester-Days 2010 on Sunday, June 13 from noon to 4:00 p.m.  Participation includes Historic Winslow Association, Daniel Webster Estate and Marcia Thomas House, all part of the Webster Street Historic Triangle in Marshfield.

 

Dancing For A Cure: Grades 6, 7 & 8 on April 9, 2010 for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at the S.S. Field House in Pembroke.  Tickets $10 in advance; $12 at the door.  Call: 781-834-7840 and visit www.cff.org

 

Marshfield Council on Aging:  You can make a difference in someone's life.  Volunteers are needed in the following areas:  deliver Meals on Wheels, medical drivers, front desk and newsletter assistance, outside grounds work, friendly visitors, and personal shoppers.  Mileage reimbursement is available.  More info call: 781-834-5581 or visit our town website www.townofmarshfield.org in the volunteer section or visit the Senior Center at 230 Webster Street. 

 

Marshfield Recreation Department
Brochures are available at Denny's Barber Shop, Ventress Memorial Library, Seaside Homes, Mass Bay Associates Realty, and on the web site www.townofmarshfield.org.    Under 'Newcomers' section click on "Recreation Programs".     The Recreation Office is located at 900 Ferry Street and staffed Wednesday, Thursday & Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
