INTERNET SAFETY PRESENTATIONS FOR PARENTS AND THE COMMUNITY

The Administration at Furnace Brook Middle School, working in conjunction with the FBMS PTO is sponsoring two morning assemblies on internet safety on
Friday, March 12, 2010. During these assemblies, Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney, Kristen Stone will do a presentation on Internet Safety and the legal difficulties that students can encounter when using the internet.  A member of the Massachusetts State Police will do a presentation on internet crime, search and seizure. The message they will bring to the students is simple--You are not as safe as you think when you are on the internet; and you can be held accountable for any activities you participate in on the internet should they be illegal.  Find out what kids are doing on computers and telephones today and what may be the consequences of their actions. Do you as parents of teens or pre-teens know what your kids are doing on the computer and on their phones?

We encourage parents to attend the first presentation that will begin at 8:15 A.M. sharp. Please arrive early and sit down in front so you can ask questions when the students return to classes. The second presentation will begin at 9:45 A. M. but will have very limited extra seating.

On Wednesday, April 14, at 7:30 P.M.,

Attorney Stone will do an evening presentation on the topic of internet safety for parents and members of the Marshfield Community. It is our belief that educating the community is part of the solution as we teach students about being socially responsible. This presentation will take place in the FBMS Auditorium.

As parents, we must teach our children to be safe and responsible in all aspects of life--technology is a big part of their lives.  Come to one of these presentations and become educated!

Event Description

    Oct/Nov Equal Exchange Fundraiser

After more than 20 years of growth, Equal Exchange now offers organic and sustainable grown coffees, teas, chocolates, cocoas,  nuts and berries from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the United States.  This easy and delicious fundraiser is sweet in more ways than one:  not only are you raising money for Furnace Brook Middle School Enrichment Programs, but Fair Trade also supports small-scale farmers worldwide.  Recent benefits of Fair Trade include micro loans for indigenous weavers in Guatemala, an ecotourism project in Nicaragua, new classrooms in El Salvador, and the use of organic farming practices.

We are very fortunate to have Janet Singer Applefield LICSW, child Holocaust survivor, returning to the FBMS again this year.  Mrs. Applefield will be presenting two one-hour sessions to the 8th grade students in the auditorium on  (date TBD).   Her extraordinarily moving story uses the Holocaust as a primary link to creating an awareness of acts of violence, racism and anti-Semitism.  This program enhances the 8th grade curriculum which includes the study of WWII and the reading of The Diary of Anne Frank.   The FBMS PTO would like to acknowledge the Marshfield Local Cultural Council and Massachusetts Cultural Council for funding the majority of this program.

8th Grade Class Night Class Night is the final event for our outgoing class.
7th Grade Field Day Field Day, in June is a fun-filled day for our 7th graders!
